J.K. Rowling By Stuart Pearson Wright
Sitter: Joanne Kathleen (J.K). Rowling
Artist: Stuart Pearson Wright
(2005) Oil on board construction with coloured pencil on the paper.
Stuart would regularly visit J.K at her home in Scotland where she wrote the majority of her novels. He began to visit in 2004 and used to make sketches and take photographs for reference. J.K would usually be sketched sitting at this small table writing parts of her harry potter novels which was why stuart decided to sketch her sat at the table. The story of this portrait is meant to show the public and private life of J.K as a writer and shows the impact that she has had all of over the world to children and people that have read her novels. The 3 eggs in the picture represent her 3 children and that three of her own eggs gave rise to those 3 children. Stuart said that he has seen her as a writer and a mother and he wanted to portray how wonderful she was as both. He also wanted to show that she is a regular women like most of us in the way she eats boiled eggs and soldiers for breakfast and is barefoot. The distorted image referring to the space in which she is sat is meant to have had influence from another childrens classic, Alice in Wonderland. 'The painted sky beyond the window suggests a passage of time and illusionism that resonates with the Potter stories'. The artist created a 3 dimensional scene which was influenced by eighteenth century toy theatres and the boxes of Joseph Cornell.
