Skin conditions

08:06

Before thinking about applying makeup you should always check with your model whether they have any skin conditions that you need to be aware of. This can effect what types of products you use on them, whether you are able to use brushes again etc. Although you should be aware of skin conditions before applying makeup it is important that you do not diagnose a model with any thing as you are not qualified to do so and it could be a very uncomfortable situation for the model.

Acne:

Acne is an extremely common skin condition, it can be recognised as spots on the face. These can range from white heads, black heads, more severe cystic acne will be very red an harsh. Although acne is not contagious some products can cause it to flare up so you must be careful with choosing what products to apply.

Ringworm:

Ringworm is a fungal skin infection. It causes a red rash like circle on the skin. Ringworm is contagious and can easily spread so you need to take this into consideration when using products and especially your tools. Tools should not be touched again until deep cleaned to make sure no bacteria gets on other people. It can also be a very dry meaning that powdered products would emphasise the area.

Impetigo:

Impetigo is a highly contagious bacterial infection so this can be very serious when it comes to doing a models makeup. It causes sores and blisters so can be very uncomfortable for the model, as well as thinking about what products to use on the skin you should also think about application and being extra gentle on the skin as it could be very painful.

  • bullous impetigo – which causes large, painless, fluid-filled blisters
  • non-bullous impetigo – which is more contagious and causes sores that quickly burst to leave a yellow-brown crust
