This was the first practice i got to do with my partners design. She felt that it went well and said she was pleased with the end result. She wanted the overall look to be very bold and vibrant. There were a few parts of the makeup that i wanted to focus on to practice and take my time with in the assessment. These were:
- Pigmentation of the Orange shadow.
- White eyebrows. I wanted them to be more even and less patchy. Next time ii am going to add the colour gradually and use a concealer around the brow to make sure the line stays clean.
- Application of the lip colour. I found during my practice it was a bit messy, so i decided next time to use a different brush and get my model to stretch her lips to make the application process easier.
Before my assessment i am going to make sure my partner has really clean skin and eye area and i think that this affected the look in the practice. The eyes around the lash line was very dark where excess mascara had been.
Products used:
- Kryolan foundation palette (Ivory & FS 38)
- Illamasqua skin base 01
- Illamasqua translucent powder
- Kryolan bright eyeshadow palette (Mandarin - eyes / SM- blush and contour)
- Kryolan supra colour (081 - lips/ 070 - brows)
- Black mascara

My 3rd design is focused more on reds and golds rather than coppers. Similarly to the last look i have combined softness with harsh lines. This time the majority of the eye is a softer red gradient, with lighter edges and a strong, pigmented middle. On the lower lash line i have used a gold liner to balance out the bright red on the lid. I have mirrored the eyes to the lips so again the lips have got a gradient look to them with all the colour being in the centre and virtually no colour on the lip line. On the cupids bow i have added a gold line running over that to mirror the gold liner used underneath the eye.
The eyelashes and brows are white which i have taken inspiration from what the elizabethans would have done in their era. The white lashes really brings out the red eyeshadow to make it pop even more.

My second design has aspects of softness and harsh lines within it. I wanted to keep the skin soft again with a subtle contour to bring out the cheekbones. I went for a harsh copper eye but blended the edges out to again keep that softness. The gold sharp liner underneath the eye adds a different finish to the eye, with the blended shadow to then the harsh metallic line. I really like the contrast on the eyes. For the brows and lashes i used a white supra colour, i have used this in all my designs as that is the aspect i really wanted to focus on for my final looks. At the front of the brow i have added hints of the gold metallic which is also underneath the eye.
For the lips i kept with the elizabethan theme and used a rouge. Instead of creating a harsh modern lip i have gone for a subtle red lip and just placed the colour in the centre of the lips leaving the lip line bare.

These photos have been my inspiration for my final looks that i have designed for the New Elizabethan project. They all include hints of copper/red/gold/white which are the colours that i have chosen for my final designs. I wanted my final designs to have an overall look of very soft skin and blended eyes. The looks all had to be very soft because that reflected my lady in waiting, i imagine her to be very gentle and polite and thats how i wanted to reflect that emotion into my final design. The colours all represent different assets of her personality. Red: Mischievous. This is shown when she is arrested for the possession of banned books. Gold: Links with royalty. Her closeness to Elizabeth throughout her life. White: Innocence. When she was accused of having links with the Seymour incident with Elizabeth but was found innocent. Finally, the copper represents a mixture of the red and gold which shines in her personality, because i can imagine Elizabeth to be quite mischievous as well. I wanted to white out the brows and lashes because thats the effect elizabethans did in those days to make it seem like they had a larger forehead, however contrasting that i wanted to add contour around the forehead to show that now in contemporary times people like to contour to give the illusions of a smaller forehead, cheekbones, jaw line etc.

This is my final design for my New Elizabethan project. The overall look is very copper/gold based white white brows and lashes.
Copper: Mixture of gold ( Royalty) and red (Mischief) makes copper.
White: Innocence behind the fact Kat Ashley was found innocent with the incident between Elizabeth and Seymour.
I have tried to keep the look very minimal which is what elizabethans did. I have also blocked out the eyebrows which they also did. The contour that i have added gives the look a more contemporary feel as now a days contour is very popular. The whole look is very soft because i wanted to keep everything very blended and not harsh, because i think that Kat wouldn't have wanted to make a statement because she was always by Elizabeth's side.

Products used:
-Illamasqua skin base foundation 01
- Illamasqua translucent setting powder
- Kryolan red blush
- Kryolan white supra colour for brows and eyelashes.
For the base we made sure that we didnt moisturise or prime the skin and just went straight in with the Illamasqua skin base foundation this gave the best result and the most pigmentation to the skin. The skin base did irritate my skin and when i removed it, it left me with very red skin.
For the brows and lashes we used a disposable mascara wand and the kryolan supra colour in white. To give the brows a strong white colour we brushed the disposable wand through the brows against the hairs and then with the hairs. I found that you have to be really careful with the brows as it is easy to get the white on the skin above and below the brow, so if this happened i would take a cotton bud and wipe it away and use my brush that i used for the skin base to even it out. For the lashes it was the same concept as the brows except you coated the lashes from above and below, using a spatula to take some of the supra colour on the back of your hand and rolling the wand in it to get the product on the bristles.
For the blush we used the kryolan red blush and the blush brush and made sure we applied the product directly at the front of the cheeks in a circular motion to create this circle style blush. It was difficult getting both side even as you had to make sure you placed the blush in line with the other cheek and also the product was really pigmented meaning if you went wrong it was hard to correct it.

Before applying makeup or prepping the skin on your model you should ask the questions above to get a bit more information from them so you have a better understanding of their skin. Skin type is a very important question to ask so you have an idea on what products you should use on their skin type and products that effect it and products that will work best.
Other information you should find out is:
- Are they allergic to any products, before you use any products on their skin.
- Any cuts, blemishes, rashes, open sores or any other skin complaints.
Make sure your model feels comfortable if they have an issue on their skin that they feel self conscious about and do not diagnose anything.
Make sure you wash your hands before touching your models skin as you do not want to spread any bacteria onto their skin.
-Place a gown around your model.
- Don't put your makeup straight on the surface, make sure it is clean and put something down between the surface and the makeup.
- Do not double dip any of your products.

Skin care is extremely important before applying any makeup to the skin. You need to make sure that the skin is clean with no residue left over before you apply any makeup so that you have a 'blank canvas' to work with.
We practiced on our partners and were shown how we should stand to prep the skin before makeup. All cleansing, toning and moisturising should be done from behind the person, using the mirror to to see what you are doing.
Cleansing:
- Apply using cotton pads.
- Removes makeup and dirt from the skin.
- Use cotton buds around the eyes to get close to the lash line.
- Allows for a blank canvas before you start applying makeup.
- When prepping the skin on a male use tissue instead of cotton pads as the wool can get stuck to the stubble.
- If the client has a lot of eye makeup you can ask them to take it off themselves because then they can apply more pressure to their eyes.
Toning:
- Removes any further residue and dirt.
- Applied using a cotton pad.
- Preps the skin for moisturiser.
Moisturise:
- Hydrates and moisturises the skin.
- Depending on what skin type the client has should depend on the amount you apply.
- Some bases work better without a moisturiser or a primer, so depending on what base you use that could effect whether you apply it or not.

Acne:
Acne is an extremely common skin condition, it can be recognised as spots on the face. These can range from white heads, black heads, more severe cystic acne will be very red an harsh. Although acne is not contagious some products can cause it to flare up so you must be careful with choosing what products to apply.
Ringworm:
- bullous impetigo – which causes large, painless, fluid-filled blisters
- non-bullous impetigo – which is more contagious and causes sores that quickly burst to leave a yellow-brown crust
Before thinking about applying makeup you should always check with your model whether they have any skin conditions that you need to be awar...
Last weekend i went to visit my boyfriend at university in Cardiff and we decided to go to the museum on one of the days because they had exhibitions in there related to his course. I wasn't expecting to find anything related to the elizabethan era whilst i was there but i was pleasantly surprised when i saw this feature of Elizabeth I.
The feature was talking about different kind of pearls and where they originated from and how they were formed. In one of her portraits she was wearing pearls and they have actually identified those pearls as 2/3 seeding pearl oysters that were on her dress. Some of these pearls were from parts of Wales which was why it was included in this museum.

Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester
This portrait really caught my attention purely just because of the colours, i thought the bright red was really eye catching. The pose that he is positioned in seems to be very powerful so may suggest that he is a very powerful man and an idol to people.
Symbolism:
I thought:
- The symbol in the top left corner must represent an organisation of some sort, maybe to show links to the tudor era.
- The crown in the bottom right corner may represent royalty or some links to the royal family.
- The type of clothing that he is wearing suggests that he is from the upper class and is extremely wealthy for his time.
